It is worth noting the increasing use of Concrete Tiles, especially micro cement and polished concrete, in rustic and traditional environments, where it offers excellent pairing with wood.
However, they have made a place in the world of decoration. Where, in addition to offering this industrial aesthetic, they offer some interesting qualities.
Among these stands out its enormous strength and durability. To which we should add a wide variety of colors that can be achieved thanks to the use of all kinds of pigments, and different types of concrete tiles and textures or finishes.
Resistance: They are enormously resistant. Otherwise, they would not be used in industrial settings. Therefore there should be no problem in this regard in the domestic sphere.
Variety of Colors and Textures: Although we are accustomed to relating cement and/or concrete floors with the classic gray, today, it does not have to be that way.
You can use pigments with which to achieve virtually any color, and also the use of varnishes or resins allows finishes in gloss, matt or satin.
As for the texture, they can be polished to achieve a smooth and shiny finish, create a mosaic effect, rough, etc.
Things to keep in mind while Use of Cement and/or Concrete
- It is required the realization of works, more or less complex, depending on the cement or concrete class we choose.
- They are cold and impersonal, especially when compared to other materials such as wood or carpet. The use of carpets is usually used to alleviate this problem. In fact, with some types, such as micro cement, we must forget to use radiant heating.
- They are very hard surfaces. Therefore the tread is not as comfortable as we would like, and being long periods of standing is annoying.
- High environmental impact. It is an industry that harms the environment, although in many cases, it is tried to reduce using recycled materials and/or alternative fuels for production.
- Fissures may appear . Especially when the appropriate product is not used or not treated properly, which unfortunately is usual.
- They are slippery, especially when polished. Varnishes or resins are usually applied after installation, which reduces this problem in part but does not completely solve it.
Differences between Cement and Concrete
The main and most obvious difference between the two materials is that cement is one of the main components of concrete.
At first glance, it is difficult to differentiate a concrete floor from a cement floor, at least among non-professionals in the sector.
Types of Concrete and Cement Pavements
There are several types of pavements made with cement and concrete.
- Polished Cement Floors
Although we can find it in domestic areas, it is still mainly an industrial and/or commercial pavement. It is especially resistant.
It is necessary to include expansion joints in the construction, although the distance between them may be greater in less demanding areas such as domestic. On the other hand, each cloth will have an approximate thickness of 7-10 centimeters and is applied many times on a concrete slab already hardened. This thickness is an inconvenience for the application on floors, since being a very heavy material, it can overload the structure and cause it to suffer.
- Microcement Floors
It is a cement variant that seeks to improve its performance in some areas, especially domestic. Aesthetically it is very similar to the previous one. However, it differs in its application and mainly in its properties: more resistant, durable, waterproof, and easy to apply. Although on the other hand, it is somewhat more expensive.
Another important advantage is that one type of continuous coating. In other words, it does not need expansion joints, which maintains uniformity in any decoration of Flooring in India.
Summary: These types of floors or floors are of a clear industrial influence. That is, they have been designed and installed for industrial areas where there is high traffic and where there is a need to withstand large loads.
